With so much recent concern regarding possible funding cuts in the state budget that might have a negative impact on the arts, ConcordTV is hoping to brighten the day of the arts community with the launching of a new television program premiering on Thursday, April 8th on Concord’s community Channel 22 at 7 pm. The new production, Art In Focus, is a half-hour, monthly program in the style of a news magazine show.

“Art In Focus has a three-pronged mission that we are truly proud of”, says Julienne Turner, ConcordTV’s Executive Director. “Art in Focus will showcase artists and arts organizations in the capital area, help to promote Concord as a destination for the arts in New Hampshire, and create an archive of the incredible talent from our community.”

Striving for the best quality production possible, ConcordTV has established an advisory committee, comprised of artists and members of arts organizations in the Concord region, to help with the development of the show.  “Members of the committee have been extremely supportive of this endeavor and realize the importance of promoting the arts on ConcordTV, especially during this difficult time of budget constraints”, says Ms. Turner.

The titles and graphics for Art In Focus were created using input from the advisory committee, and content for the first production was selected based on committee input. ConcordTV has made a further commitment to the new program in assigning the station’s staff producer, skilled videographer and editor Steve Shannon, to handle all technical aspects of the show. “From the moment you hear the opening music for Art In Focus on your television, which was created with the help of the Concord Community Music School, you’ll realize that Art In Focus is a unique program that invites you to stay tuned to see and hear more.”

What can viewers expect on the first show? Expect to see a youth component, featuring the recent student art exhibit at the Steeplegate Mall, a tour of the Community Players of Concord’s studio on Josiah Bartlett Rd., and a look at the unique creations of a local artisan.

A schedule of airing dates and times for Art In Focus will be included on the ConcordTV website, www.yourconcordtv.org. ConcordTV will also make the program available to other Public Access TV stations across the state.

What's

October 29, 2009 9:24 am

What happens at Concord TV in a typical week? Tucked away within the walls of Concord High School, station activities are not visible to the outside community. But step into our world any day of the week and you’d be surprised at just how busy Concord TV really is. Take this week, for example. Each day always starts with Concord High School’s morning announcements, where students produce a brief news type show that is seen in every classroom and then replayed on the education channel 6 for the public to see at 4:30 pm every day. The Concord Recreation Department came in to tape their program, “We Are Serious About Fun”, and the staff helped tape a segment for the Concord City Library’s new show, “At Your Library,” all to be seen on the government channel 17. Media teacher Jon Kelly is in the studio twice this week as part of the school’s media education class. “Senior SpeakNH”, with host Bob Williams, will tape two programs on Friday, and host Deborah Sprague is ready for another dynamic “Volunteers in Action” production immediately after. Community producers David Murdo, (”What’s Happening at the Audi”), Dick Patten (”Around Town”), and Denis Goddard and Lydia Harman (”Capitol Access”) taped their regular series programming, filling up the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening slots.

There’s typically a lot of people coming in to sign out equipment every day too. This week alone, equipment was signed out every day by community residents and nonprofits that was used to tape events and sports that will be put on the channel, a value of over $10,000 in production equipment (cameras, tripods, microphones, cable, batteries, etc.).

Staff and interns have been working on other projects, such as a bicycle safety project, Concord High School Film Society, Recycling Video, Concord Carbon Challenge, to name a few.

We must add that classes are becoming very popular at Concord TV. Concord residents and nonprofits have figured out that Concord TV is a fabulous resource, where they can take an affordable class in Camera, Editing, Studio Production, etc., get their message out on channel 22, and learn valuable skills that can also be used in their organizations and in their personal life.

Free orientations are scheduled for three days this week, one being an expert in Peregrine Falcons, hoping to learn how to use the channel to share his knowledge with others in the community. Camera classes are full, and lap tops are reserved every day for those working on editing their projects.

The staff has also been busy preparing for the technical needs of the Concord Boys and Girls Club annual auction, scheduling the channels, updating the bulletin board, and managing all the day to day work that fills the hours in any office and organization.

So, there’s really nothing typical at Concord TV. It’s new and exciting every day, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We invite you to be part of it!
