Capturing

April 22, 2010 11:55 am

A few Sundays ago, I went on a family picnic at White’s Park with my husband and two granddaughters. We noticed many people walking their dogs. Having my camera ever handy, I thought, “Wouldn’t it be fun to take photos of dogs in the park and put them on TV?” The girls, 8 and 5 years old, were thrilled to be part of this new project. So, together, we will be collecting photos for our new project called, “Dogs of Concord.” That day, we took photos of nine dogs. Their owners were very receptive to the idea and can’t wait to see them on channel 22.

This is the type of simple project that can be a fun family activity.Once we get a couple dozen or so photos, we’ll edit them together, add music and graphics and voila! . . . we’ve created an interesting piece to put on local community channel (and on the Internet).  Next, we’ll venture into video for a new project.

All the equipment and training (check out the classes on the website) are available at ConcordTV if you and your family or friends want to produce content for the Public Access channel. Just give us a call at 226-8872 and arrange a time to come in for a tour of the studio and free orientation.

Oh, don’t forget to “friend” us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (look for the links on our website home page) to read about this project and others. We want to hear your ideas too.

Station

With so much recent concern regarding possible funding cuts in the state budget that might have a negative impact on the arts, ConcordTV is hoping to brighten the day of the arts community with the launching of a new television program premiering on Thursday, April 8th on Concord’s community Channel 22 at 7 pm. The new production, Art In Focus, is a half-hour, monthly program in the style of a news magazine show.

“Art In Focus has a three-pronged mission that we are truly proud of”, says Julienne Turner, ConcordTV’s Executive Director. “Art in Focus will showcase artists and arts organizations in the capital area, help to promote Concord as a destination for the arts in New Hampshire, and create an archive of the incredible talent from our community.”

Striving for the best quality production possible, ConcordTV has established an advisory committee, comprised of artists and members of arts organizations in the Concord region, to help with the development of the show.  “Members of the committee have been extremely supportive of this endeavor and realize the importance of promoting the arts on ConcordTV, especially during this difficult time of budget constraints”, says Ms. Turner.

The titles and graphics for Art In Focus were created using input from the advisory committee, and content for the first production was selected based on committee input. ConcordTV has made a further commitment to the new program in assigning the station’s staff producer, skilled videographer and editor Steve Shannon, to handle all technical aspects of the show. “From the moment you hear the opening music for Art In Focus on your television, which was created with the help of the Concord Community Music School, you’ll realize that Art In Focus is a unique program that invites you to stay tuned to see and hear more.”

What can viewers expect on the first show? Expect to see a youth component, featuring the recent student art exhibit at the Steeplegate Mall, a tour of the Community Players of Concord’s studio on Josiah Bartlett Rd., and a look at the unique creations of a local artisan.

A schedule of airing dates and times for Art In Focus will be included on the ConcordTV website, www.yourconcordtv.org. ConcordTV will also make the program available to other Public Access TV stations across the state.

Sunday night was a real winner for Red River Theatres’ Red Carpet Awards night, with more than 300 people attending the fundraising event. Everyone was dressed to impress as they strolled down the red carpet and looked forward to enjoying the Academy Awards experience with friends while supporting a great cause. ConcordTV staff was on hand to add to the celebrity experience, playing the roles of  paparazzi and providing red carpet interviews, a la Joan Rivers style. The lights were flashing and so was the glam and glitter of the majority who really dressed the part. Was that Elizabeth Taylor we saw? And we think rock star “Slash” attended that evening too.

There were so many moments to enjoy, and much of it was captured on video and in photos by ConcordTV staff that night. This is the type of collaboration that we experience every day at ConcordTV . . . whether it be a project with the city, such as the new program, “@yourlibrary”; taping  a special School Board meeting or a Main Street public forum; or helping nonprofits get the message out to the community, ConcordTV looks for opportunities to collaborate with others to get important and interesting content on local cable channels 22, 17 and 6.

Come collaborate with us. We’ll help you tell your story!

scouts in studio

Every now and then a scout leader will call to arrange a tour of the station. It’s always fun to see the kids in the TV studio as they experience what it’s like to be on television and how it all works. This group of cub scouts from Epsom, Troupe 80, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They also heard all about Public Access Television and how people in the community can learn to produce their own TV show. The highlight of the tour was the fun they had in front of the green screen, giving them an idea what it’s like to be a weatherman on television.

ConcordTV staff is always available to give tours of the station. All it takes is a phone call: 226-8872, or a quick email: doris@yourconcordtv.org. Talk to your troupe, group, or association, and set up a time today.
